The language of time is often relied upon to articulate the dissonances and contradictions that typify the post-apartheid South Africa. My research is focussed on post-apartheid nostalgia and the various ways that it intersects with identity and cultural practices.

My interest in nostalgia emerged from my work on issues of seriality and on concepts and cultural practices of memory at the crossroads of cultural studies and the cognitive sciences. Phenomena of nostalgia and processes of memory share a dimension of seriality; that is, both work by ways of repetition and difference.
