Cash is not the king in Sweden, so all tickets have to bought in advance. You can buy SL cards or tickets either at Metro station or at Pressbyrån local stores (anywhere in the city). There are 24 h, 72 h or 7 day cards depending on how long you are going to stay in the town. The SL card is valid for all types of Stockholm transport. It pays off to buy a card rather than to pay for single passes as Stockholm is divided into several traffic zones and further travels such as one to Södertörn University campus requires travel to zone 3.
